With more than 20 million confirmed cases, India is one of the most affected countries in the world. Five million cases alone have been added in just the last two weeks - the highest level of new daily infections in the world.
For people already living in crisis, COVID-19 is devastating. Especially in overpopulated and poorer settlements like slums where hygiene standards often cannot be met. There is no access to disinfectants, washing machines, let alone - clean water. Under these conditions the lack of face masks and proper sanitation of them accelerates the viral spread.
An alternative disinfection method for the reuse of face masks was needed. By using the energy of the sun, we have developed BoxMeo Celsius, a simple solution that allows everyone to hygienically reuse a face mask. This not only protects people from COVID-19, but also protects the environment. Reusing the face masks reduces the amount of waste. We are very grateful that Siemens is supporting BoxMeo with our mission and that we can help some of the worst affected people in India to better protect themselves against COVID-19.
During the second covid wave in India “Our goal is to keep the children alive" stated Kuku – the founder of the Sunshine project in India. Children in particular are the ones who suffer the most from the living conditions in India - there is often a lack of sufficient drinking water, food, electricity, hygiene and education. And thus, also no guarantee of hygienic protection against COVID-19.
Our purpose is to help those children. That’s’ why we support charitable projects in India who support these suffering street children. Instead of spending their time on the streets, there the children receive love, food, clothes, school uniforms and also Private tutoring to support them on the way to graduation. The project provides the children with everything essential to give them a perspective in life.
Thanks to Siemens we started an initiative in India to distribute 10.000 BoxMeo Celsius boxes to those charitable projects which give underprivileged children a perspective in life. This enables them to better protect themselves against the virus.
With the beginning of the pandemic a COVID 19 relief fund was set up by Siemens Caring Hands e. V. to provide rapid COVID-19 relief to people in need. This initiative was made possible by the employees of Siemens Switzerland and Siemens AG, who had responded to an internal call for donations last year. The funds collected were and will be used for specific, charitable COVID-19 relief projects worldwide like ours.
If the pandemic has shown us anything, it’s this: we’re all in this together – and we are stronger together. The coronavirus has become a driver for worldwide solidarity. When countries or companies go it alone, it doesn’t work. That’s why we are particularly grateful and proud to be - as a Start-up - empowered by the social Siemens ecosystem. Let’s fight COVID together was from the beginning our credo and we were really happy to find likeminded people at Siemens and within the charitable projects in India to do so!
